How to add a Twitter feed to a WordPress site using Themify
If you want to know how to add a Twitter feed to a WordPress site using Themify, you’ll be pleased to hear that it’s pretty straightforward (Note, I’m referring to Wordpress.org sites here, not Wordpress.com). If you are familiar with interfaces, Wordpress and using themes/builders, then you should have no problem.
There are a number of ways you can add a Twitter feed to a Wordpress site, and essentially there are two parts to it. Firstly, setting up the Twitter side of things, and secondly using widgets to display your tweets where you want them to appear on your site.
How to add a Twitter feed to a WordPress site using Themify
Set up a twitter developer account and add the twitter security keys to wordpress
To add your tweets to your Wordpress site you need to copy and paste a couple of Twitter security settings into your Themify interface. Here’s how to do it…
If you have a twitter developer account
If you already have a Twitter Developer account and you have a Twitter Developer app set up, then simply log in, click the ‘Keys and tokens’ tab:
Copy your ‘API key’ and ‘API secret key’ and then go to Themify Ultra/Themify Settings/integration API and select Twitter API Settings. Paste in the Twitter details to the ‘Consumer Key’ and ‘Consumer Secret’ fields then hit Save.
If you don’t have a twitter developer account
However, if you don’t have Twitter Developer account then follow these steps:
Go to https://developer.twitter.com/en/apps and log into your Twitter account. Click Create an App and you’ll be directed to sign up for a Twitter developer account.
Simply fill in the information they ask for, review the agreement and click Submit Application.
You’ll get an email confirmation through. Click the link. You’ll be taken back to Twitter and will be able to click Create an App again. Fill in the details of this form. Once done click the ‘Keys and tokens’ tab.
Copy your ‘API key’ and ‘API secret key’ and then go to Themify Ultra/Themify Settings/integration API and select Twitter API Settings. Paste in the Twitter details to the ‘Consumer Key’ and ‘Consumer Secret’ fields then hit Save.
That’s it. Now there’s just a couple of steps to follow using widgets to display your tweets where you want them to appear on your site.
Note, if you go ahead with the next stage before you have added Twitter security settings into your Themify interface, you will see this error message on your site where your tweets should appear:
So it makes sense to set up the Twitter side of things first.
Adding the twitter feed into your wordpress site
Now the fun bit! Looking at the left hand column in Wordpress, scroll down and select Appearance/Widgets.
On the left hand side of this widgets page you will see all the widgets available to you, and on the right, all the places you can feature the widgets. So, just look for the ‘Themify – Twitter’ button and drag it across to the location you want to display your tweets such as Sidebar, Footer Widget, etc.
Once dragged/dropped you’ll see the ‘Themify – Twitter’ button has auto-expanded allowing you to fill in your Twitter ID and select any other options you wish, such as how many tweets you want to show (Note: Ignore the message saying “Twitter access token is required at Themify > Settings > Twitter”). Hit Save when you’re happy. Job done. Refresh your website, and your tweets should appear (example below shows tweets in the right sidebar).
If you want to add a twitter feed to your footer then there is an extra little step of setting up your footer widgets.
Go to Themify Ultra/Theme Settings/Theme Appearance and scroll down to Footer Design:
Select a Footer design that you want, make sure ‘Exclude Footer Widgets’ is not ticked, and select the number of footer widgets you want. In this example we have selected four.
Scroll down and hit Save.
Looking back at the left hand column in Wordpress, scroll down and select Appearance/Widgets.
As before, on the left hand side of this widgets page you will see all the widgets available to you, and on the right, all the places you can feature the widgets. So, just look for the ‘Themify – Twitter’ button and drag it across to the footer widget of your choice – in this example, Footer Widget 4.
Once dragged/dropped you’ll again see the ‘Themify – Twitter’ button has auto-expanded allowing you to fill in your Twitter ID and select any other options you wish, such as how many tweets you want to show.
Hit Save when you’re happy. Refresh your website and your tweets should appear in your footer.
